Cincinnati Public Schools (CPS) launches an awareness campaign to promote the wearing of face masks, asking the community to do its part to lower community spread of COVID-19 and keep students in the classroom.

The student-driven campaign called Masks on for Me began last week. CPS students throughout the district will develop artwork that will be shared as part of the campaign. In addition, CPS youth leadership organizations and athletics are also participating through creation of videos and spreading the word via their social networks.

Student art, videos and messages will be showcased online, as well as through social media, posters, banners, face masks and yard signs. CPS Board of Education Member Melanie Bates created the idea for the campaign as chair of the Health and Safety Committee.

“The CPS team has worked diligently to ensure we have the best safety protocols in place in our schools. We work with health experts every day. As a result, we think school is one of the safest places students can be,” Bates continued. “However, we all see the data moving in the wrong direction and need the community to do its part. Student voices are powerful. They want safe schools and a safe community and we hope people hear their appeal. Wearing a mask, even in small group settings, is an easy step to take and something everyone can do.”

“We especially appreciate our partners, including RC3, Regional COVID Communications Center, who will play a critical role in helping to get the message out,” CPS Chief Communications Officer Krista Boyle shared. “If businesses or non-profits are interested in partnering with CPS on this important campaign to post fliers, posters and yard signs, share the message on social media or act as a sponsoring partner, we encourage them to contact us to learn more. We are all in this together.”

CPS students began phasing into a blended-learning model, which includes in-person learning, the week of October 12.

More information about the Masks on for Me campaign is available at www.cps-k12.org/news/backtoschool/masks-on-for-me. Student art will be featured on that webpage and on CPS’ social media accounts: Facebook (@CincinnatiPublicSchools), Twitter (@ IamCPS) and Instagram (@IamCPS) channels.
